Since Little Kids Rock Across America, sponsored by The Dr. Phil Foundation, launched in December 2009, more than 10,000 students in 84 schools are being served by this unique program designed to encourage youth to form bands.
To date, teacher workshops on how to implement LKRAA into their schools have been conducted in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Tampa, New York City and Philadelphia.
More than 120 classroom teachers have been trained. Three additional workshops are scheduled to take place this fall again in Tampa, Dallas and Chicago. With funds donated by The Dr. Phil Foundation, more than 6,000 guitars, basses and keyboards have been purchased for LKRAA sites.
Since it's launch in December 2009, Little Kids Rock Across America has touched the lives of 38,000 public school students in 10 cities -- giving kids the opportunity to ROCK! During a time when funding for the arts has been reduced, this Dr. Phil Foundation-sponsored program has filled the gap by purchasing and making available 6,072 instruments to nearly 875 classrooms in addition to making it possible for 258 public school teachers to become qualified instructors.
"When kids reach a certain age, they need to belong to something," Dr. Phil shared at the programs launch. "I would much rather these youth choose a band or a choir than a gang."
